- To work cooperatively with local businesses and community groups to establish regular
community kitchens.
- Offer families the opportunity to prepare low cost and nutritious meals to take home
and have on hand.
- To enable families to make intentional choices regarding their diet and weekly menu
that will put them in control of their food budgets and enable them to use their
time efficiently.
- To fight hunger and poor eating habits for lower income families.
- To teach basic cooking and menu planning skills for both parents and children.
- To promote Canada Food Guide guidelines—especially in regard to the increased consumption
of fresh fruit and vegetables and the decreased consumption of “junk food.”
- To provide an atmosphere of social interaction and support for participants.
- To eventually establish a food co-op to further increase buying power to enable families
to eat nutritiously.

- Education as a means to empowerment.
- Social and spiritual support and camaraderie.
- Expectation that every participant contribute financial and work equity to establish
a healthy personal self-respect.
- The restoration of the “family table” as an important time of connection and interaction.
- Respect and appreciation for any and all facilities that are made available to the
Community Kitchen.

of menu and meal preparation.
